Visiting Us
Visiting Us
Whether it's for a college assignment, a spirtual journey, or an interest in our long standing community institution we welcome visitors. To make the most of your visit, we offer a few suggestions:
- Call the office and let us know why you're visiting; there's a lot a variation in our services from our shorter Friday evening services, to our tradititional Saturday morning services, to our monthly family oriented services lead by children from our religious school. The office can suggest a time which would best meet your needs.
- For those interested in the 100 year history of our synagogue, our office would be pleased to connect you with our designated tour guide and historian.
- Regardless of the purpose of your visit, we do request modest attire to maintain a distraction free worship setting.
- When you arrive, introduce yourself and let someone know you're new; we have a number of guidebooks which newcomers find useful; one which outlines the order of our service and brief description of each section and (for more advanced visitors) transliteration guides to help you with pronouncing Hebrew words.
- During our services, you're welcome to participate as much or as little as you feel comfortable. The service leader will periodically announce which page we're on in the Siddur (prayer book) and will ask for you to rise during the key portions of the service which command that extra level of respect.
- For men, we have a basket of headcoverings (we call them kippahs) located on a table in the hallway. We ask you to please wear one while inside the building.
