From the Ridiculous to the Sublime (April 2016)

As we view events unfolding in our world we see so much that confounds us, so much that makes no sense. To me it reaches the heights of absurdity.  I can only shake my head with dismay. It would be comedic if it weren't true.

In Palestinian school text books the State of Israel is not mentioned!  Only Islamic holy sites are cited. And, beyond all of this, there is the "glorification" of martyrdom and death! And they "want" peace? REALLY? In what universe? How about starting with recognizing that Israel exists and has a right to exist?

Did you know that Iran has been paying for Palestinian "martyrdom" since the '80's? It currently is compensating $7,000 to each family of a slain terrorist who murders Israelis! Additionally, if Israel demolishes the family home of the terrorist as a punishment, Iran will furnish the family with $30,000!

But wait, it gets much worse, as if that were possible! The "peace loving" Palestinian Authority doesn't like this! Oh, not for the reason we would hope. They find this objectionable because they are demanding that the monies from Iran should funnel through the PA, so that it can distribute the reward to the "martyrs'" families! Since Iran doesn't trust the Palestinian Authority enough to let them be the conduit for delivering these monies, she is insisting in doing it herself. This is all despicable, isn't it?

All of this is ridiculous, the result of unadulterated hatred.  All of this together with the activities of ISIS, Hamas, Hezbollah and other haters remind us of the teaching of the Haggadah: “In every generation they rise against us to destroy us, but the Holy One delivers us from their hand.”

Yes it is the Holy One who delivers us from their hand! Little Israel’s existence is a miracle, isn’t it? And, the sublime is also hidden here: “But the Holy One delivers us from their hand.”

Not only with G-d’s help do we continue to exist and survive, but we also are blessed and thrive.

On another level the Holy One delivers us from their hand, by our being like the Holy One, who with compassion seeks to heal, to nourish, and to bless. When Israel does this, when we do this, we are emulating G-d and  are delivered from being like the haters of the world.

Did you know, for example, that the Israeli company Soda Stream, was employing Palestinians but was forced to move from the West Bank, because of the misguided BDS movement. Due to  this pressure, the company had to let the Palestinian workers go. Neither the Arab workers nor the company, a model of Israelis and Arabs working together, wanted this to happen. But, it did!

Israel supplies most of the electricity to the Gaza and West Bank helping the PA financially!  Israel provides extensive medical care to the Palestinians. Even the Palestinian media, at one time, had

to admit that Israel was helping its people with treatment.  Indeed, Israel is still continuing to train Arab doctors as well.

We, as Jews, never give up our hope in Hashem and in the goodness He has instilled in our hearts and in this world.  Israel has so many startup companies that are making scientific, medical and technological breakthroughs for the benefit of all in our world.

I am hopeful that the door we open for Elijah will one day soon herald the coming of the era of peace! I see hints of this, however small, as former enemies are turned to friends.  If you wish to read an amazing blog, please see: http://www.thankyouamisrael.com/thank-you-am-israel and go to commentaries. It is written by a remarkable Syrian refugee. He sees the truth about the so-called "enemy" Israel, and finds that the Jew wants to aid Syrians and help save them! Take a moment and read his blog. You will be rewarded and uplifted!

May there come a day when those who hate Israel; the Jews; the United States; and others who disagree with them discover that their hatred is totally misplaced and absolutely wrong. Then, may we be greeted with appreciation and love!
